Phoenix Community Alliance (PCA) annually celebrates the accomplishments of individuals who have made outstanding contributions to Greater Downtown Phoenix. Today we honor our 2010 Center City Starr Recipients and congratulate Mayor Phil Gordon for his leadership in taking Phoenix into the future.
Our 2010 Center City Starr Recipients:
Linda Hunt, President & CEO, St. Joseph’s Hospital & Medical Center is being honored for her role in the expansion of the hospital and her efforts in creating partnerships with educational institutions and other health care institutions to benefit and expand health care services for our community.
Michael Ebert, a Managing & Founding Partner of RED Development LLC is receiving the award for his continuing commitment to Downtown Phoenix and for his role in delivering CityScape, a $500 million dollar, high-rise, mixed use development project covering three prime city blocks right in the center of downtown.
President Michael Crow is being recognized for his taking Arizona State University to new and innovative heights as the “New American University.” This model transformed ASU into one of the nation’s leading public, metropolitan universities increasing the freshman class by 42 percent since 2002; the number of students of color by 100 percent and the number of students from families below the poverty line by 500 percent. Crow’s leadership brought ASU colleges and programs to the area and new state of the art facilities including Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and ASU College of Nursing and Health Care Innovation to downtown Phoenix. President Crow will receive his award at a later date.
PCA will also present its Skyscraper Award, only given to exceptional leaders who inspire others to make significant contributions to the community. The Skyscraper Award is being given to City of Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon, who elevated the quality of life for all of our community by bringing about many new projects and creating new partnerships during his tenure as mayor .
To congratulate the recipients, join us today for a special reception at Steele Indian School Park Memorial Hall at 4:00pm. The recipients will accept their awards and past Center City Starr and special guests will toast to them and their accomplishments!
