College Depot is a destination for full-service college planning. This new community-based college access center is being built in the Burton Barr Central Library and will open its doors in June. Providing greater access to higher education, College Depot will offer Phoenix area residents information on all aspects of college preparation. Services will target low-income communities where the students would be the first generation to attend college; however, services will be available to all visiting students.
The project will create a full-service information center on the second floor of the central library, to be open during library hours. The 2,400-square-feet enclosed space will be equipped with 25 computers and wireless internet. The services will include workshops and one-on-one assistance with financial aid, ACT and SAT test preparation, career and major exploration, and more. Representatives from Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, The University of Arizona and the Maricopa Community Colleges will host office hours at College Depot in order to meet with students.
The Phoenix City Council approved Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding for the construction project, while foundation and corporate grants will fund program operations. The College Depot is offered through the City of Phoenix Youth and Education Programs office. For more information, visit our website at http://www.phoenix.gov/collegedepot.
