Approach

The Discovery Triangle is a movement for fostering an urban lifestyle that integrates education, economic prosperity, recreation and a celebration of Arizona.

Overview

The Discovery Triangle is a new regional model and multi-jurisdictional effort that leverages and enhances the economic, environmental, intellectual and cultural vitality of the area.  The cities of Phoenix and Tempe along with committed private sector representatives are exploring ways to bring this urban center together to benefit the residents, businesses and properties within the Triangle and the greater region. This cross-city region has the potential to become a leading urban knowledge location for new and expanding technology-oriented companies, transforming the urban core to meet the needs of 21st century businesses and their employees.

Area

The Discovery Triangle encompasses the urban areas of Tempe and Phoenix and Papago Park.  Created to connect the many assets of the region, the initiative will form a coordinated, regional force for urban redevelopment. Each area is represented by a major “innovation anchor” located at the corners of the Triangle:

• Downtown Phoenix and the Biomedical District in the west
• Tempe and the ASU Tempe campus in the southeast
• Papago Park in the northeast

2010 Major Initiatives

DTDC will focus on the following strategic initiatives designed to build support and funding for the long-term vision of the region:

• Serve as the catalyst for regional collaboration inspiring a spirit of cooperation among interested parties and jurisdictions.
• Further articulate the vision with the community ensuring long-term support and idea sharing.
• Develop and advance a comprehensive urban public policy for the region.
• Package and promote the assets of the Triangle, celebrating the history and diversity of the area.
• Ensure the ongoing health and effectiveness of the DTDC Board and the work it performs for the Discovery Triangle.

Discovery Triangle Development Corporation

The Discovery Triangle Development Corporation (DTDC) was formed to create and implement a long-term vision and facilitate development/redevelopment opportunities in the Discovery Triangle. DTDC will act as the civic entrepreneur in the Triangle serving as a:

• Marketing and communications organization
• Facilitator/coordinator of projects
• Advocate for urban redevelopment and innovation investment

DTDC’s goal is to leverage the current assets of the Triangle enhancing the economic, environmental, intellectual and cultural vitality of the region while setting the area apart and positioning the Triangle to successfully compete in the global economy.

Pioneer investors will define and advance Discovery Triangle opportunities.

• Preference given for available opportunities to serve on the DTDC Board of Directors
• Preference given for available opportunities to serve on DTDC committees
• Recognition as a Pioneer Investor in all DTDC collateral materials and Web site

Innovator $50,000 Level

Innovator investors will act as leaders in the advancement of Discovery Triangle opportunities

• Access to one DTDC Board of Directors seat
• Board representative sits on the DTDC Executive Committee
• Recognition as a Innovator Investor in all DTDC collateral materials and Web site

Discoverer $25,000 Level

Discoverer investors will be active participants as the Discovery Triangle advances opportunities

• Access to one DTDC Board of Directors seat
• Recognition as an Discoverer Investor in all DTDC collateral materials and Web site
